History
Garden City NY was established as a model community envisioned by landscape designer Lenox Dent Ridgeway and Alexander Turney Stewart. It is named after the high-end retail store that carries the same name and it draws its own sense of style through various sites such as Frank Lloyd Wright’s House at 24 Chestnut Street. Its architecture also seeks to present “suburban unity” through garden-style which is an homage to Plato’s idea about idealism.
